PJ OBrien Monthly Newsletter.

PJ O’Brien Blues Band
Hello team,
Well that’s that then. The winter solstice has passed and tax time is here again. I myself celebrated the solstice by combining the two this year and spent a frosty night naked on a camp chair, collating …my receipts by the firelight of a 20ft Wickerman. I’m expecting a big refund but I fear I may have to spend it all on Aloe Vera moisturiser for my severely roasted buttocks. Um right, back to the music.
Well a very big thank you to everyone who turned out for the Blues Explosion Vol 3 launch last week featuring the Mason Rack Band and myself. Hands down the best show i’ve played this year. It was one of those great gigs where the guitar seemed to play itself, rather than the usual gigs where it feels like it’s being wielded by an arthritic Orangutan. Of course it’s not all about me so big ups to Davo Fester, Al ‘Coach’ Britton and Danny Tsun for being the lowdownest , most funkiest cats they is. (Yeah that’s right, it’s my newsletter and i can play fast and loose with grammar if i want) And of course lets not forget the headliners! Mason Rack and his band, who were absolutely incredible and a great bunch of guys to boot. Finally a big thanks to the organisers Tony Cini and Leah Peakman for their tireless support of Australian blues and roots music. Legends.
Well the my CD ‘Jefferson Blues’ is still going strong. It scored a great review in Blues Matters UK which is nice and It’s still sitting at number 3 on the Australian Blues and Roots Chart. Two months at number 1, a month at 2, and now sitting at number 3. Say what you like about it but it’s sure got staying power. It’s like the Cliff Young of Australian blues music. If anyone’s keen I’ll be talking about the album and many other pressing issues as the featured guest on the Alive 90.5 Australian Spectrum show with Ross Fear on Tues July 17 @ 9pm EST. Along with my cd we’ll be covering the usual topics, puppetry, Meso-American pottery, the two state solution, Original verses Hot and Spicy etc. Join me.
The gigs –  Rocks Rhythm Boat harbour cruise with Ginhouse on Sat July 28 – 1200 Call Tony Cini for tickets (0414854749) PJ O’Brien Band – Sydney Blues Society Jam (House band) – Botany View Hotel, Newtown – 6pm Until then, be good to one another. Much love. PJ
